CAR ACCIDENT INJURY CLAIM ADVICE

The driver of any vehicle has a ‘duty of care’ to other road users which means that drivers must take reasonable care for the safety of other people using the roads and pavements. If there is a vehicle collision, it is the duty of all parties involved to stop and exchange details. If you or any other person in your vehicle suffered personal injury, you should immediately report the matter to the police and keep the incident number that the police will give you. You should then give this information to your solicitor which will help them in making a car accident injury claim for compensation.

Medical Advice

If you suffer any personal injury as a result of a vehicle collision that was not wholly your fault, then prior to making a car accident injury claim you need to get your medical condition well documented and you should seek immediate medical advice from the A&E department of your local hospital and/or your own general practitioner. It doesn’t matter if your injuries are relatively minor as even very trivial injuries can attract awards exceeding £1,000. If the doctor prescribes any medicine to you and you are required to pay for your medication, keep the receipt as proof of your expenses.

Insurance Company

Try to talk to a solicitor about your potential car accident injury claim as soon as you can so that the incident is still fresh in your mind. Additionally you must inform your own insurance company about the incident and also inform them of any injuries that you have suffered even if collision was not your fault. There are some injuries that will take a few days to become apparent. If this does happen then contact your insurance company again and report these subsequent symptoms or injuries.

Hit & Run

If you are involved in a collision and the third party leaves the location without giving their details (hit and run) you should report the matter to the police immediately and get an incident number. When this does happen you can make an application the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) who will in certain circumstances, compensate the innocent victims of untraced or uninsured drivers.
