Northern Ireland Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme (CICS) 2002 : Northern Ireland has its own tariff scheme to compensate victims of violent crime which was introduced in 2002. The scheme operates by assigning each type of injury a set tariff value. The Agency must clearly state reasons for denial or reduction of awards. The new scheme provides enhanced allowances for the psychological effects of bereavement. Claimants with criminal records are not absolutely precluded from receiving compensation, although there may be reduction or denial of an award. Victims of sexual abuse during their childhood, prior to May 1, 2002, may now also file claims.
