RSI REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURY CLAIMS

Accident Lawyer UK represents specialist solicitors who focus on personal injury claims. Our lawyers have significant experience in representing those with claims involving repetitive strain injury. Our lawyers conduct RSI claims on a risk-free, no win no fee basis, meaning you will not have to fund or finance your claim or pay expenses as it proceeds. Any compensation won is yours: we make no deduction, so whether you win or lose there is no charge. On submitting your details, an expert solicitor, a member of the Law Society Panel of personal injury experts, will call to give you free advice on how you can go about making a compensation claim.

So what is repetitive strain injury? RSI is an umbrella term which refers to a spread of musculoskeletal injuries which are also known as Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs), Work-Related Upper Limb Disorders (WRULDs) and Occupational Overuse Injuries. Such injuries tend to occur at work and may cause substantial pain and inconvenience. There are numerous conditions which may contribute to RSI and lead to further pain:

  • Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)
  • Epicondylitis (Tennis / Golfer's elbow)
  • Bursitis
  • Ganglion Cyst
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Peritendinitis
  • Cervical Spondylosis
  • Rotator Cuff Syndrome
  • Writers' Cramp
  • Tendinitis
  • Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tenosynovitis
  • De Quervain's Syndrome
  • Trigger Finger / Thumb
  • Dupuytren's Contracture
  • Vibration-induced White Finger

Repetitive starin injury can occur in a variety of places in the body including the spine and lower and upper limbs. RSI symptoms include numbness, tingling, sharp or dull pain, weakness or poor grip, and limited movement of the limbs. The consequence is that the individual is left unable to conduct simple tasks which affects lifestyle and wellbeing both at home and at work.

Employers should closely monitor the health and welfare of employees. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations require that health and safety risks are identified, evaluated, and that appropriate action to avert repetitive strain injury cases is undertaken. Employees should receive adequate health and safety training upon taking up employment and also where there is a pertinent change in working practices, systems, technology or responsibilities. Employers who fail to fulfil their legal obligations may, in the event of an employee having RSI, be liable to pay compensation.

RSI remains a serious issue. The British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has suggested that over 500,000 workers in Britain suffer from painful neck or upper limb disorders resulting from work and recent research has suggested that this figure may underestimate the extent of the problem. The TUC has said that at least one in fifty workers has repetitive strain injury symptoms, such as pain and immobility across numerous areas of the body including the joints, the nerves, and muscles in the fingers to muscles in the neck.
