Symptoms
The injury occurs when the head is jolted backwards or forwards more than is normal or natural. The impact moves the vertebrae out of position, stretches and compresses cartilage and causes damage to sensitive muscle and nerve tissue. Although the symptoms are often immediately detectable, the associated pain and suffering may only be revealed over time – sometimes weeks or months after the incident. Be vigilant and look carefully for the symptoms which must be documented by a doctor to give a reasonable chance of making a successful whiplash claim. Symptoms may include :-
- pain to the neck or head
- dizziness or blurred vision
- pain, numbness, pins and needles
- spasm in the shoulders, in the arms or the hands
- reduced flexibility
- lower back pain or discomfort

Medical Evidence
A whiplash claim can become a complicated legal case. There is usually little evidence of damage to the neck which can be difficult to substantiate and value. In dealing with a whiplash claim you should try to be meticulous in recording and detailing the nature of the incident, the progress of the injury and the subsequent recovery. Ensure that the injury is reported to your doctor as soon as possible in order to create a contemporaneous medical record for use as evidence. You can then expect an independent medical specialist to examine you and your medical records in order to provide a medical report for use in valuing the whiplash claim.
